Campaigns

Conservatives in Clwyd South have been campaigning on a wide range of issues important to our local communities.

Affordable Housing

Conservative Councillors on Wrexham Council supported making affordable housing a local priority.  Council house waiting lists can often mean many people find it difficult to find suitable housing within their local community.  Councillor Paul Rogers is currently working with the Rural Housing Enabler to see whether affordable homes can be provided in villages of Brymbo and Tanyfron.

Community Hospitals

Welsh Conservatives have been campaigning to protect community hospitals across Wales.  In Clwyd South Paul Rogers is keen to support both Chirk and Llangollen Community Hospitals and will campaign to protect health services in local communities.

Empty Properties

Empty properties can often have a negative impact upon the image of a community.  Paul Rogers has been working with council officers to identify empty properties in communites and is hoping to identify possible solutions to bring them back into use and help regenerate communities.  Empty homes could also provide a solution to affordable housing in the area.

Post Offices

Welsh Assembly Candidate Paul Rogers campaigned against Labour's Post Office closures in Clwyd South in 2008 and has welcomed the announcement by the Conservative led UK government that there will be no further Post Office closure programme.  Paul believes that councils and the Welsh Assembly Government can play a key role in supporting local Post Offices by continuing to support diversification and increasing the range of services available.

Regeneration

Clwyd South has seen significant job losses in recent years with the closure of Air Products in Acrefair and Flexsys in Cefn Mawr.   Paul Rogers is concerned about excessive housing development in this area and believes that these former industrial sites should be reclaimed for sustainable mixed development in consultation with the local community.
